Natal Studies Classical Course

Course Description:

This course is open to anyone familiar with modern astrology that would like to add Classical Astrology techniques to their tool kit.

It is a graduation requirement for all students who are currently registered in or returning to the Natal Studies Module that have taken NAT-1 prior to May 2015 and all students in the Diploma Module that have not taken the prior course "Introduction to Classical Astrology."

Syllabus:

Class Meeting 1: Sect & Temperament

Learn the sect of the planets along with their qualities of hot or cold and moist or dry. Additionally learn how the qualities relate to the classical temperaments of choleric, sanguine, melancholic, and phlegmatic.

Class Meeting 2: Significations of the Planets

This class will cover the significations of the planets as rulers of or indicators for specific people, places and things.

Class Meeting 3: Essential Dignities

This class will recap the four main dignities and add dignity by triplicity, term and face. Additional components of sect will be covered that relate to the essential dignities. Learn how essential dignity and sect affect interpretation.

Class Meeting 4: Accidental Dignities

The many astronomical factors of accidental dignity are introduced including oriental, occidental, visibility, speed, brightness, combustion, cazimi, under the beams and Lilly's weighting system.

Class Meeting 5: Historical Periods & Dignity Practicum

An overview of the historical periods of astrology from Babylonia to the 20th century will be covered mostly through reading & videos. The bulk of class time will be used for chart practice with the essential and accidental dignities. History questions will be on the exam, so be sure you watch the recordings and bring your history questions to class.

Class Meeting 6: Actions of the Planets & Their Cycles

This class will cover the various roles a planet undertakes in a chart. The delineation will focus on the actions of a planet in a house. Additionally the synodic cycles of the planets will be covered.

Class Meeting 7: Planets as House Rulers

This class covers the important roles a planet undertakes as a house ruler. Learn the distinction between a planet occupying a house and a planet ruling a house. Additionally delineation of the Ascendant and Midheaven will be covered.

Class Meeting 8: House System Practicum

This class will recap the various house systems and focus on what to do when the houses a planet occupies and rules changes between house systems. Several house systems will be analyzed in each example chart to illustrate how house systems affect delineation as chart practice continues with the distinction between planets in a house and planets ruling a house.

Class Meeting 9: Dispositors

This class will cover disposition from the classical view point.

Class Meeting 10: Final Exam
