The Astrology of Medicinal Plants

Prerequisites: A basic knowledge of astrology

Course Description:

The purpose of this course is to introduce you to how plants were used medicinally in traditional astrological medicine. We will begin with a brief summary of the principles of ancient Hippocratic medicine. We will then build upon this framework to explain how planet medicines were prepared and used according to these principles. We will discuss how astrological method helps determine the best plant choices.

Syllabus:

Class Meeting 1: Traditional Medical Principles

We review Hippocratic disease, the elements, the qualities, transformations, and the theoretical approaches to picking medicinal agents.

Class Meeting 2: The Historical Use of Medicinal Plants

How the plants are classified, how the means of preparation may affect the properties of plants, the doctrine of signatures, power and potency

Class Meeting 3: Where Disease Accumulates. Charts of Disease.

Receptacles, accumulation sites, dyscrasia. The decumbiture chart.

Class Meeting 4: Applying Plants by Astrological Sympathy and Antipathy
