Class Meeting 1: Week 1: Melothesia: The Stars in the Body
A basic astrological axiom states: “As above so below, as below so above”. Nowhere is this statement truer than in the relationship between the body and astrology. This initial lesson explores the connection between the earthly and celestial through the lens of Greek medical theory and the bodily processes as they are attributed to the signs and planets.
Class Meeting 2: Week 2: Temperament I
Continuing from last week, this lesson offers an in depth exploration of the most fundamental indicator of health and disease within the Hippocratic and Galenic systems of medicine; the four temperaments. Our first part of the lesson involving temperament focuses on history, philosophy, and calculation from a natal chart.
Class Meeting 3: Week 3: Temperament II
Picking up from where we left off, our second part on temperament explores the effects of the humours on the body and mind. Here we go in depth into the psycho-spiritual effects of the humours on the mind and psyche of an individual as well as humoural pathology and how the excesses or deficiencies of the four humours adversely effect the body. The lesson wraps up with a discussion on the different methods of remediation.
Class Meeting 4: Week 4: Seeds and Stars
Here we explore the spiritual framework utilized by many classical astrological authors to explain the causal function of astrology that we often take for granted. While some elect to utilize the spiritual connection between all things in religious and magical practices, our focus is primarily on its utilization in astro-pharmacology. Identifying the planetary associations and herbal actions of plants provides us a language to use in healing and remediating.
Class Meeting 5: Week 5: A Spoonful of Sugar. Elections and Medicine
All things are a product of their time. No where is this more true than in astrology where the timing of events shapes their development and outcome. As astrologers, we see this primarily through the utilization of birth charts that help us understand people and the futures they are likely to experience, but astrology can be used to augment ventures and events and the branch of electional astrology helps us do this. In this lesson, we explore the application of astrological timing to help empower medicine and ensure safety during medical procedures.
Class Meeting 6: Week 6: Herbal Preparation Lab
Diagnostics and prognostics are not the only tools available to us in medical astrology. In this section, we’ll begin discussion of treatment and remediation through Galenic herbal medicine by exploring the Hermetic and Platonic religious and philosophical ideas that make it possible.
