6 Class Meetings
Rectification of the birth time is the technique to determine the correct birth time based on the astrological events affecting the native's chart that are associated with significant life events in the past. The ability to rectify the birth time is a requirement for certification with NCGR and other astrological organizations and a very helpful tool in consulting work with clients. This course ($213 for 6 class meetings) is audit only (no homework, no final exam, no credit). If you are IAA Diploma Program students and need a credit, please register under "Professional Training" module: https://www.astrocollege.org/academic/course.cgi?COURSE_CODE=1558196058-2265987
Class Meeting 1: Introduction and Overview
What rectification has in common with being a lifeguard. Confidentiality. Helping clients find their birth time if possible. Selecting the time frame of the birth. Collecting meaningful life events and their dates from clients without “leading the witness.” Asking for clarification about dates, events, and "missing decades." Not pressuring the client. Optional: asking for photos at as many different ages as possible. Using www.astrofaces.com if you're working with photos. Choosing what events from the client's list for which to notate the transiting planets on the dates of those events. What transiting planets to notate if the client knows only the year, only the season, or only the month or week of the event. Finding a range of signs and degrees for the possible Ascendant and the possible MC.Color-coding events by type, both on the list and on the degrees-and-modes diagram.Working with the degrees-and-modes diagram--using hard aspects, at least at first. We'll use other techniques besides the transits for cross-checking. Note: in class and throughout the course, we may practice selecting events from other people's lists as time permits.
Class Meeting 2: The Ascendant, the MC, and Using Solar Arcs
For what events did you decide to notate transits, and why? What needed clarifying, if anything? Did you color-code anything but the Asc./Desc. and the MC/IC axes and the changes of address?
What to write down first on the degrees and modes diagram (the DAM).
Rectification tips for the absent-minded or the frequently-interrupted astrologer.
Looking for a *relationship* between the Ascendant and the MC, not just for the Asc. Using the DAM to pick the first hypothetical chart / birth time. The importance of the ruler(s) of the Ascendant. Orbs. Why it's better not to use equal-house systems when rectifying a chart.
If time, using solar arcs for preliminary fine-tuning. Q and A.
Class Meeting 3: More about Solar Arcs. The Progressed Moon
What solar arcs can show you. Fine-tuning with solar arcs. As many solar arcs as possible should fit a hypothetical chart, so you may need to adjust the hypothetical birth time from the time that using only the transits gave you.
Using the progressed Moon for more fine-tuning.
Going back and forth among the different techniques. Finding a chart that best fits the events in as many of the techniques as possible.
Q and A.
Class Meeting 4: Other Secondary Progressions
Using progressions other than the progressed Moon.
What to do if you're bogged down.
Q and A.
Class Meeting 5: Putting it all together
What would you like to review for the final? Please come prepared with any questions or comments, or email them to me before class.
Q and A.
Class Meeting 6: Review and practice
Review, using a practice test you'll be given at the end of class 5 to fill out and bring to today's class. Discussion of parts one and two of the final exam.
