A comet with an erratic orbit between Saturn and Uranus, Chiron was discovered in 1977 and was thought at first to be a small planet or planetoid. The mythology surrounding Chiron suggest that he was the first centaur and first astrologer, and he is commonly referred to as the 'wounded healer.'

Several theories abound concerning his rulership of various signs but some recent ideas focus on the concept that comets do not rule zodiac signs.
