Hyperbola

One of five conical sections (circle, ellipse, line, and parabola being the others). A hyperbola is the focus of all points in a plane whose differences of the distances of two fixed points is a constant. A hyperbola has an eccentricity greater than 1. Meteors that strike the Earth and interplanetary space probes travel in hyperbolic orbits.
