Uranus

The first planet beyond Saturn to be discovered, Uranus is named for a Greek god of the sky. Uranus caused an upheaval in traditional astrology as well as in astronomy as it is lying on its side in a different axial rotation to the other planets, and like its unusual physical orientation, it symbolizes being different or unique. The orbit of Uranus is 84.01 years and stays in each sign of the zodiac for approximately 7 years.

Since Uranus is the first of the Outer Planets and is more generational than personal in nature, the sign that it's in doesn't matter as much as its house placement, and any aspects it makes to personal planets. Where Uranus is in the chart is where we would like to be unique, where things might be topsy turvey in our lives. Generationally, it refers to scientific and technological advancement. Uranus really likes to shake things up, especially the rules and traditions of Saturn. It rules inventions, science, electricity, magic, the occult. It is humanitarian and forward thinking. Its urge is towards total freedom in all things, and in search of this will use revolution or strange and weird marks of individuality and autonomy just to show the world that it's different. It has been found to be associated with natural upheavals such as earthquakes too. Uranus rules the sign of Aquarius.
