Most astrologers with any knowledge of Hindu astrology (Jyotish) are aware that it uses a division of the zodiac into 27 nakshatras, often referred to as Lunar Manions. Fewer astrologers are aware that Arabic and Medieval Latin astrology also have such a system except that it is based on the division of the zodiac into 28 divisions. These are called Manzils. They were extensively used in weather forecasting and also in electional astrology. This lecture will explore their use and will also present evidence that for the most part these were used in a sidereal zodiac and that the ayanamsha used in this system was not the Hindu system of Lahiri but was the Babylonian zodiac postulated by Cyril Fagan and Garth Allen.
